Alessandra's Artistic Approach
As a child I walked the streets of Florence and absorbed, through my skin and eyes, lights and scents of the Italian Renaissance, until folly. As a teenager, I met my first love at the feet of plaster copies of Michelangelo's sculptures, in the dust of the oldest Italian Gypso library. I practiced the life of the apprentice of "Bottega" without even knowing what I was doing and I ended up making a perfect circle like Giotto, the shepherd, drawing on the stones of his pasture. The "Art," that was it! Then I crossed the big pond and I tried to do something else. My research has developed around the concepts of permanence, temporality of movement in space and time, using different mediums such as new technologies of the image, or use of materials from the origins of the world (wood, cloth, rope, sand, stone ...).
Since 2013 I've made a return to the traditional techniques inherited from my Florentine origins, through large acrylic paintings on canvas, where the self-portrait is transfigured, for a celebration of the Women’s magnitude and depth of her connection with nature. I illustrated, again, the relationship between the female being and her world, I seek the sense of identity drawn within oneself which transcends gender identifications, places and culture.
These themes are materialized by superimposed layers of transparency and thick paint, the decorative aspect which should not delude ourselves: all these layers and these thicknesses are only correspondence gesture to the repetition of days and nights of the universal woman, a constant back and forth between the inside and the outside, of which I am the spokeswoman.
